Position Summary Information

Basic Function

Under the general supervision of the VP for Student Affairs, the Director of Counseling Services manages all aspects of counseling, health, and wellness services, provides clinical mental health services to students, and provides consultation to the College regarding mental health issues.

Performs the duties and responsibilities of this role at all times in a fashion that supports the College’s commitment to creating an inclusive college of academic excellence where a variety of people and perspectives are welcome, and to providing an environment where people from all races, ethnicities, national origins, genders, sexual orientations and backgrounds may succeed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical

• Provide clinical mental health services to students, both individually and in groups
• Respond as needed to mental health emergencies
• Manage relationship with consulting psychiatrist and consult with psychiatrist regularly regarding students
• Provide clinical supervision of cases to counseling staff and graduate student intern(s)
• Provide after-hours emergency coverage by telephone (through Student Affairs administrator on-duty)
• Provide consultation to faculty/staff, parents, and concerned students as requested regarding the mental health of student(s)
• Coordinate psychiatric hospitalizations of students (communicate with hospital, faculty, parents, Academic Dean’s office, etc.)
• Maintain appropriate legal and ethical boundaries regarding student information
• Maintain relationships with community providers for purposes of referral
• Consult with CCE staff regarding psychiatric emergencies of CCE students and referrals of CCE students to community providers
• Maintain professional licensure through the state of North Carolina
• Develop and provide trainings to various campus constituencies (i.e.: faculty, Public Safety staff, Residence Life staff, parents, first year students) regarding relevant mental health issues and/or referral to the Counseling Center

Administrative

• Supervise all Counseling staff, Student Counseling and Health Administrative Assistant, and Sexual Assault Advocate position.
• Develop and evaluate Center’s provision of services on an ongoing basis
• Develop and maintain website and other promotional materials
• Coordinate with graduate program(s) to arrange for and maintain graduate student-intern
• Manage Counseling Center budget
• Maintain appropriate records
• Arrange for gathering and management of statistical data relevant to Counseling Center clients
• Track student satisfaction with services of Counseling Center through customer satisfaction survey
• Serve as member of Student Affairs Leadership Team
• Serve on CARE Team
• Serve on Disability Accommodations Committee
• Duties as needed and requested by the VP for Student Affairs

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of MA/MSW, licensed or certified by the State of North Carolina, supervised experience in psychotherapy along with a working knowledge of developmental theory and experience treating college age clients. Skills in assessing systems, individuals and groups. Some administrative experience.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who demonstrate success in recruiting, retaining, mentoring and / or actively engaging with under-represented and underserved populations both in the workplace and in the broader community.
